History - the 1880s
The move into national Leagues saw the Club remain status in their Division, several times going close to promotion as yet not to be, until season 2002/03 which saw us relegated.
However, after a single season in Northumberland and Durham 1 we managed to regain our position in North 2 East after beating Pontefract 25 -18 at Alnwick through the play-offs, having finished 2nd to Hartlepool Rovers in the normal season. We look forward to renewing old acquaintances in the 2004/05 season.
In 1992 "Danie" Serfontein, President of the Rugby Football Union, and also a long-time member of Alnwick (1965) honoured the Club when he attended the Players' Dinner - he was invited to become a Life Member of the Club - an honour which he graciously accepted.
The Club has progressed a long way from the days of changing at The Plough - two or even four teams sharing two baths and playing on a farm field to the present day with players enjoying excellent facilities both on and off the field and atop class fixture list.
